Patreons of renowned MiSTer FPGA developer, Jotego, can now enjoy the cult arcade Tecmo brawler Ninja Gaiden (also known as Shadow Warriors).
The arcade version of this series (released in 1988) follows a beat ’em up format similar to Bad Dudes, where the player controls a nameless blue ninja (or red for player two) as he travels across various regions of the United States. His mission is to defeat an evil cult led by a descendant of Nostradamus, who is attempting to fulfill his ancestor’s prophecy of a dark king’s rise in 1999.
The player can perform a variety of moves, such as a flying neck throw and a backflip. Power-ups are earned by throwing enemies into background objects like streetlights and dumpsters. The character primarily fights with bare fists, though a sword can be used briefly as a power-up, and environmental objects can be used for stronger kicking attacks.

Ninja Gaiden was one of my favourite arcade games ever, and up there in my personal wish list of games to come to MiSTer FPGA, so my personal thanks go to Jotego and everyone who was involved in the project to make it happen.
The Ultimate MiSTer team encourages MiSTer FPGA fans to join Patreons run by Jotego as well as other developers to help bringing us more awesome cores in the future.
